With the aid of my everyday journal, my love of photography, my passion for 1940s recipes and a little help from ChatGPT,  hubby and I  can  step back in time to an era that we love. 

And this is Us...1940s Style

That being said... even though pictures of  Hubby and I.. and some of our home.. are Ai generated.. the majority of them are taken from actual photographs.

So here's a little something about me. 

My name is Mrs Phoebe D.. otherwise known as Mrs D.

I am a wife, mother, Nana and a full time happy homemaker.

Our Actual Home

I am married to my amazing, hard working MrD and we live in our little Blue House in a very peaceful neighbourhood in the Southern California Hills. 

Our 1940s Home

MrD and I have very conservative values, have a traditional and extremely happy marriage and enjoy living a simple life. Our home is filled with love.. laughter... and the sounds of Big Band Music and Frank Sinatra!

We have three grown children and four rather fabulous grandchildren...who live 5.000 miles away in the Uk. Its a long story why we live in America (MrD is an American) and they all live in England. However.. we do visit often and MrD is in love with the country.

MrD works long hours in a cable factory. He leaves very early in the morning and is away for 12 hours every day. We still have a few more years until he’s old enough to retire, but we look forward to the day where we can spend long hours together.

So while MrD is in work.. my days are spent looking after our home... working in our Victory Garden and of course...  I love to cook from my vast collection of 1940s cookbooks, magazine clippings and handed down recipes from my grandmothers kitchen.

MrD is the Head of our home... I am the Heart and.. I like to think our Kitchen is the Soul. Together it all works wonderfully well.. so I would love to share our story with you... one recipe at a time

All my recipes come from my vast collection of 1940s cookery books...magazine clippings and from my own grandmothers kitchen. Some recipes include wartime rationing... some are indulgent... and some are downright unusual.. but with all of them I use ingredients that were available in that era

Sometimes they are a success.. especially with a bit of tweaking... and go down well with the family...
Other times... they just go down well into the bin!

Good or bad I will share the results... and hopefully will inspire you to give them a try.

Im just an ordinary housewife.. who loves her life..
